I fitted these to a 1940 Raleigh. The original rock hard brake blocks were useless to the point of being frightening! The Kool-Stop Salmon brake blocks are a significant improvement. In fact I've fitted Kool-Stop brake blocks on all my vintage bicycles. The Salmon blocks are kinder to precious old rims too. These are more expensive than many makes, but they work and are cheaper than crashing!

I recently 'rescued' my Dad's 1970s Peugeot from rusting in his garage. It's a fantastic ride and the original Mafac Racer brakes are noticeably better than the brand new Tektro Cantis on my other bike. At least they were until I wore the pads down! I had almost resigned myself to replacing the cartridge system blocks with some generic bolt on brake blocks as I had only seen these Koolstop replacement pads through American suppliers and couldn't justify the expense.

Before finally giving up I set aside some time for a last intensive internet trawl. I'm so pleased I did as I eventually found them on the SJS Cycles site. They're not cheap but they are effectively a custom made part for a component that has not been manufactured and sold for many a year. That's the price to pay for riding a vintage bike and it's well worth it in my view, especially as the Kool Stop rubber makes them even more effective than the original black compound.

These transformed almost unusably noisy 'Racer' Mafac's in to quiet and efficient brakes. The performance improvement is enough that I am tempted to fit to other bikes with Mafac brakes even if the existing ones are not squealing.

I imagine the price is because of the relative low numbers they sell.

Great to be able to find new pads for mafac brakes. mine squeal a lot but they work! They are indeed too pricey but i can't find any other brand making something similar

I knew the Salmon Koolstops as I have them on another bike they're good. The only critical point is the price. If they would nor be that expensive I'd have them on all my bikes...

Very good brake blocks. Fantastic in the wet & they look fantastic in the salmon colour.

Very pricey item, but they're impossible to find elsewhere for my old mafac brakes. More than I paid for the calipers!
