Will a 4mm instead of a 4.5mm hub spacer be ok?

I want to use my nearly new 7 speed cassette and my new rear wheel (Shimano hub). I now need a spacer... will a 4mm one suffice or is the 4.5mm spacer essential to take up the floating cassette :)) Many thanks.
