Is the chain guard just on one side?

Yes, chainguard is only on the outside.

Different Chainring?

Can it be used without the chainguard and with a different chainring? What is the BCD?

Hi,

The chainguard can be removed but the chainring is fixed to the crank arms so this cannot be replaced.
