Details
- Deore XT Shadow Dyna-Sys 10-speed rear derailleur delivers reliable and precise shifting with a stiff and lightweight open design
- Shimano's new Direct Mount Rear Derailleur system gives more space around the rear frame dropout resulting in easier rear wheel removal but also allows frame designers to shorten chain stays, increase axle sizes and move suspension pivots
- Direct Mount gives a simpler, cleaner look
- Shadow features a super low profile design that reduces the risk of damage from trail side hazards
- Single tension spring prevents contact with the chainstay resulting in a silent ride
- Direct cable routing prevents snagging from any trail side hazards
- All-alloy construction leads to lower weight
- Four fluorine-coated link pin bushings
- High rigidity wide outer link braces the pulley body
- Strong return spring for a positive shifting feel
- Improved cable pull ratio provides a more accurate shift action
- Dyna-Sys 10-speed compatible only
- Durable sealed bearing pulleys
- Top normal spring uses the spring to select higher gears

SJS Customer Service:
No, this combo won't work- however 10-speed road shifters will work with 9-speed long cage mtb derailleurs.

Can this be used on a road bike?

I haver a customer who wants to put the Deore XT range on her road bike. Cassette is 34/11 chainrings 50/34. I know I need the SGS (long cage) I know this is really for MTB, but she's insistent, as she has this set up on her other bike. I'm not so sure the shifting is going to be very good.
SJS Customer Service:
No, with road STI levers the shift ratios are different. You can, however, run 10-speed road STI shifters with 9 speed deore nech with a 10 speed mtb cassette.
Hope this helps,
John

Will This Work With Friction Shifter?
By J

Will this, or any other clutch rear derailleur, work with a shifter in friction mode? Or will the extra tension be too much?
SJS Customer Service:
Hi,
This derailleur you have asked the question on is not actually one of the clutch models, it is the standard non-clutch model. We have never heard of somebody running a friction shifter with a clutch derailleur before and it is not something we have the facility to test so we unfortunately have no way of knowing if this will work or not.
Thanks.
