Consa little stiff

Prosworks really great

Fitted this to my partner's Brompton/Alfine conversion, it is a bit chunky & stiff, but works really well & seems extremely sturdy & well made. Definitely needs an inline barrel adjuster fitting as well, though - I'm going to try sjscycles item id 24781.

ProsNicer than alternative for flexible mounting options

Not mounted just yet. Was expecting a plastic shifter so nice to get it and see that it is metal. I should have checked but this one comes with the cable fixing bolt so no need to order it separately as well

ProsFits well, lots prettier than the standard unit

Yes it is pretty big, but the standard Alfine shifter is the ugliest bicycle component I have ever seen, the JTEK one looks nice, fits on my modified Brompton well and does the job really well. If you're fitting an Alfine 11 then you are a bit stuck for a shifter, but if you're converting a Brompton then the standard one wont fit, and the Versus one is designed for road-racers. This one fits nicely and works well.

ConsHuge and hard to fit, stiff and clunky mechanism

ProsIt has the right shift throw for the Alfine 11

This shifter is something like twice the size of the 8-speed version, with a really long lever and a really large throw angle. Be careful ordering - I was not able to find a comfortable way to use it as a thumb shifter and ended up mounting it on a stub inboard from the grips. It's also very stiff to operate and not smooth at all.

Can These Be Fited As Bar End Shifters

This shifter has actually been converted from a bar end shifter to be used as a thumb shifter. We stock the original bar end versions for use with 11spd Alfine hubs and they are SJSC part number 38738.

Really Long Lever. Is A Shorter One Available?

I recently bought this shifter. It's huge compared to the 7/8 speed models, and the large housing plus the very long lever make it basically impossible to fit as a thumb shifter on anything but a flat bar, though I have a trick in mind to make it work better. However, I'd still like a shorter lever, and the cutout makes it next to impossible to shorten the stock one. Do you have shorter levers, or non cut out levers that we can machine down?
