Can I use this with a Shimano Tourney 7 speed rear derailleur

I want to swap my drop handlebars for a flatbar on my old Carrera road bike. It has 2x7 speed Shimano Tourney road bike gear system. I have read that because this is a grip shift it should work but would like to check. Thanks
