Diameter of metal bit that is under the grip

Hello there . I hope you can help . Would you happen to know the diameter of the metal ' tube ' section that is underneath the rubber grip ? I was wondering if this metal tube-y bit could be used for attaching light brackets / thumb-shifter mounts , etc . Many thanks . John :)

the tube section is a 27mm diameter, it would certainly open up addition mounting options. SK 19/10/23

Please could u advise of length of extension (excluding clamping section)?

As title, they look short, but would like to understand if they'll be a viable alternative to regular bar ends mounted inside controls.
