Probably good with thick-walled steerers.

I've got a steel steerer with quite thin walls, and I couldn't get this star nut to stay put, even with very light preload on the headset.

In the end, I took a file to a standard one, and that's holding fine. The two nuts have the same flange diameter so I don't know what the difference is.

I expect this would work better on an aluminium steerer, or one of the thicker-walled steel ones, but mine has gone back in my parts box.
