This wee bit of kit is essential to keeping your Rohloff hub in place. Unfortunately, the one I had originally on my new-build bike disappeared and I can only think it may have fallen off. Anyway, having ordered a replacement from SJS, I duly replaced it - and it fell off too, the following day! I don't know if this is a design flaw, but would recommend when fitting (a) make sure the bolt is long enough, and (b) maybe use a spring washer to hold it in place. If yours falls off, you MUST replace it, or risk ruining your Rohloff hub. In a pinch, and nut/bolt combo can be used, but I'd recommend getting the proper part ASAP, even though it seems expensive for "just a nut".
