What are the two pins for?

I have just replaced the internal gear cable in my 2004 Rohloff hub. It has quick change axle ring. I did not seem to need the pins.

SJS Customer Service:

The pins (inside the inner cable in the product image) are sleeves for the inner cable so that when the inner cables are clamped with grub screws the cable is not split or frayed.
