Several years ago, I was deployed to Iraq. Taji is a very large base there. While not on duty, I was able to blow off steam by riding a bicycle I bought, in the more secure areas of the base. It was cathartic until the flat tires started showing up soon afterward. I was literally having one or two flats PER DAY. Got ticked and ordered Continental Top Contact tires and Slime inner tubes. For the remaining ten months, did not get one flat.

However, I did note on one occasion a little bit of white stuff coming out inbetween the treads. Upon closer inspection, it was the slime. It turns white when it is doing its thing. The tire sealed right up.

To go from one or two a day to zero flats is nothing short of miraculous. I strongly recommend the use of slime, especially if you are getting a lot of flats.

I fitted these inside Schwalbe Marathon Plus tyres in the hope of having puncture free riding. It has worked so far but the slime in the tubes does gum up the valve and it takes quite a hard push on the pump to free them so you can add more air. Also the slimy gunk leaks out of the valve if you want to let air out of the tubes. These are minor issues but the proof of their effectiveness will only be found out over time. Some tubes like this only have a short life as the gunk sets solid in the tbe hopefully these ones will last some time.
