Prosnecessary IMHO!
After putting together any lighting setup on a bike I think the heat shrink tube is vital to protect the join and to make it dust and waterproof.

I'm using SJSC part 28876 to connect up my plug III to my Son 28 dynamo. What width head shrink would I need?

The size you require of the heat shrink wrapping is the one that goes from 4.8mm down to 2.4mm.
