The SON rear light is of minimalistic and robust design as well as noble looks. Many customers have been looking for a rear light like this for a long time. Now also sportive bicycles that don‘t come with rear racks can be equipped with dynamo-powered rear lights thanks to versions for seatpost mount and mudguard mount. They fit technically ideally and are of good looks just as well.

The rear light has an anodized aluminium housing, electronics and optic parts are potted watertight. The coaxial cable for connection to the headlight is firmly fitted. With standlight.

- Fully watertight
- Milled aluminium housing
- Impact resistant
- Coaxial cable for headlight connection
- Integrated standlight capacitor
- Compatible with all common dynamo-powered headlights

ConsNone that I can think of
ProsReliable and solid
I bought this to pair with my Edelux 2 front light. It’s easy to fit, the build quality is premium and the light is bright enough to be seen and is there from the off.
The big plus is never having to buy batteries or remember to recharge.
Overall an excellent rear light.

ProsFit and forget
Lovely little unit that is bright enough. I class this as “fit and forget”, it just sit there doing it’s job (protecting my rear). Cable length was more than adiquate considering the light is attached to a rack.

Prosa bright, quality item
First off, this light is a lot smaller than it looks in the picture. It is still very bright and extremely well made. The cable going into the light is fixed so it can't be replaced but I doubt you will ever have to. The connectors are not fitted but it doesn't require a degree in rocket science to do this yourself. Overall, I am very happy with this produce and would highly recommend it.
Nice Bright Light But A Shame It Doesn'T Come With The Connectors Fitted

Consshould come with the connectors fitted
Prosbright, small light
It's a really nice, bright little light but to fit it you really need a set of crimping pliers and a heat gun (I had no luck with a hairdryer). On top of that, although it comes with two sets of connectors you may find that you need more than a couple of attempts to get the hang of making the crimped joints.

If you plan on doing it yourself and you're not used to making crimped joints I'd strongly recommend getting the 9.99 kit of connectors and heat-shrink tubing. You can buy the tubing quite cheaply, but the connectors only seem to come by the thousand.

Once you've attached the connectors, the connection to the light is neat and easy to make.

ProsWorks flawlessly.
I'll make it simple. If you have a dynamo head lamp, buy this. Got mine when they were first made available, fitted it, and haven't thought about it since. It just works and work well it does. Can't recommend it enough :)

Standard cable length sufficient for Raven Twin Mk II??
By
14 Oct 2020
I want to use this with a Son Edelux II Front Light mounted to the fork crown of my size 5 Raven Twin Mk II. Can I get away with just using the standard cable length (196cm??), Or should I consider buying and extra meter of the coax cable and a Son CoAx connector set (42743) ... For what it's worth the distance from the rack to the fork crown measures approximately 180cm ... leaving just 16cm for cable routing..

If I had a Raven Twin with S&S then the answer would be a no brainer ... use the connector set, but if I can get away without making an extra connection I would prefer it.

Thanks

Tony
Hello, so we would suggest using string to get an idea of how long in total the cable will need to be to go from your front light to rear mount, fixing the string to the bike to replicate the way you wish to route the coax cable. Measure this length of string and minus 190cm. then add half a meter to the sum. This should give you a figure for the length of coax needed plus a bit extra in case you need some room when fitting it.

Will this work with the exposure revo dynamo front light?
By
20 Nov 2018
I have a connector plug to attach to the cable of the son so it will fit the exposure output socket, I Just want to know if it's compatible.
Hi there,

These should work together absolutely fine, however as we have never done this we cannot say for certain im afraid.

Thanks.

Would this be suitable for use with the Edelux II DC front light (part number 35779L140)?
By
24 Jun 2018
Unless fitting to an E bike the DC light will not function with a Hub Dynamo and therefore will not power this light correctly, if you are using this on an Ebike it will be suitable, if you are using it on a hub dynamo, and change the light to the non DC version it wll work fine.

Thanks
Ok with Brompton with a rack ?
By
21 Mar 2018
Would I need any other wire than the one included in this set to connect this back lamp to a son wheel with edelux 2 ?

Does it fit a Bompton with rack ? Without rack ?
Hi there,

You will need a slightly different mount as the brompton rack does not have two holes for this to be attached, but otherwise yes this should go straight on.

Thanks
On/off at same time as edelux 2 using manual switch?
By
07 Mar 2018
does this switch on/off with the manual switch on the schmidt edulex 2, or is it always on regardless of the on/off setting up front?
Hi there,

Yes the front light switch will control the rear light if it is piggybacked.

Thanks
Does This Light Have Over Voltage Protection?
By
18 Nov 2016
Hi,

As the rear lights piggy back off of the front lights they don't have any over voltage protection as the front light has over voltage protection and prevents any excess reaching the rear light at all.

Thanks.
What Is The Length Of The Supplied Cable?
By
10 Nov 2016
I'm mounting the light on a long cargo bike. How long is the supplied cable? Can it be extended, and if so do you sel an extension kit?
Hi,

The cable is 196cm in length. There is no extension kit, but you can extend it be splicing another cable to it and covering the connection in shrink wrap.

Thanks.
