I use two Ortleib outer pockets for tools, spare parts, storing lights/headlamp, and other small but heavy items that are good to have handy but low down on the bike. The Ortleib pockets come with mounting rails, which I had fixed to my rear panniers. I bought these extra mounting rails to fix to my front panniers. On short trips I can use rear panniers only, with the pockets attached to these, while on longer trips with all four panniers I can now transfer the pockets to the front panniers (facing forwards) for better weight distribution and perhaps, marginally better aerodynamics in the stiff headwinds that always seem to curse my trips ...
Fitting is straightforward but you need to be careful to get it right first time.
