Medium weight, high end touring rim with CSS
Ultra hard wearing Carbide Super Sonic brake surface, allowing fantastic braking and wear characteristics. The carbide is projected at seven times the speed of sound on to the rim embedding it into the alloy. Unlike a ceramic surface it cannot flake away as it is part of the rim (not a layer). Single eyeletted cross country or fast touring rim.
The ONLY recommended brake blocks are Swissstop C.S.S. Blue V-brake blocks (SJSC part # 32142).

The manufacture has not stated if they are tubeless compatible, therefor we are obliged to say no, they are not tubeless.
Does the CSS ever wear off?

CAN I USE THIS ON MY ROAD WINTER BIKE CURRENTLY USING MAVIC OPEN PRO RIMS

These would be too wide really for a road bike, we would recommend using Open Pro rims for a heavy weight strength road rim.

Tough decisions

I've been running the Mavic A719's which have been fabulous... straight and strong, but now after 27k they need to be replaced. I'm considering these Rigida's with CSS. Any thoughts/opinions?

Hi there,
The A719 rims are very good rims. These rigida rims will be fairly equivalent to the A719 rims. These rims have a CSS sidewall which means that the only brake pads that we can recommend are part #32142. These are £24.99 and may total up once you need to replace them, in the long run they may turn out to be more expensive then getting a rim that you can use any pads with.
Ultimately it is down to personal preference, so it will be down to you whether you wanted to get the same rim again with the knowledge that they will last or trying something new.

What Spokes To Use With This Rim With A Phil Woods Hub?

Hi,
Without having the hub here to measure we would have no way of knowing what size spokes you'd require. Most online spoke calculators need the rim ERD measurement which is 601mm for this rim. So with this measurement and your hub you should be able to use an online calculator to work out the spoke length.

Heavy Duty Touring

Would you recommend these for fully loaded transcontinental touring? Quality, strength, durability and braking performance are all priorities. I currently have DT Swiss TK540s which I haven't yet used. They look lovely, but I'm not sure they're built for the long haul.

It is a much cheaper rim and does not use the CSS sidewalls but is the strongest and most durable rim we have. The TK540's are good quality rims, but I would have to agree on being unsure with how well they'd hold up for long and heavy touring.
