Genuine Rohloff Spare Part - All sprockets except 13t are reversible

Requires tool to hold driver still (8501) and a sturdy chainwhip for removal. Can be fitted by spining on and stamping on the pedals.

Rohloff threaded sprockets are being phased out and replaced by splined sprockets.
To upgrade your threaded hub you will require a Rohloff Splined Sprocket Carrier Slim and a Splined Sproket of your choice.

I recommend this product
first change of rear sprocket after 9 years on a Rohloff hub.
Only changed because chain was starting to slip slightly and I had fairly recently replaced it and the chainring so thought the rear sprocket was probably to blame.
Teeth were fairly worn so decided not to try and just reverse it.
Having read reviews on how to remove it I was expecting trouble however after watching a You Tube video showing a chap removing one using a chainwhip and spanner in one hand being squeezed together I had a go and it just popped off easily.
Didn't lose any oil either...would recommend this method.

ConsNone
ProsVery simple to exchange just a chain-whip and a spanner.
The fact that these are reversible makes them a good deal. At first reversal I thought I was detecting rapid wear however under consideration of the fact that wear is no longer distributed among the many cogs on a cluster these wear slowly. Avoid KMC Inox Chain as this has such small inner-plate lands for the rollers to run on - far smaller than any other I have examined - this chain wears really fast. Wipperman Connex 7R8 or 708 found to be best by far.

ConsDifficult to clean
ProsReversible, long lasting.
I had no problems fiting this using the Rohloff manual instructions. This is my 3rd sproket with the others lasting 10,000 miles with a reversal and chain change at 5000 miles. Only down side for me is that the "lightening" holes trap dirt which is virtually impossible to remove without taking the sproket off: otherwise perfect.

ConsNon reversible, potential loss of oil
ProsIt's a sprocket.
Like a simililar comment made above I was alarmed to see oil coming out when I removed the sprocket using a vice to hold the tool. Definetely needs a warning.
Otherwise there is not much say about the sprocket except that it is a pity it is not reversible like the larger ones. Why is this? Has anyone found a fix to reverse it? The Rohloff is fitted to a BIrdy folding bike.

ProsReversible- except 13t (double life)
Easy if you have the correct tool http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/rohloffsprocketremovaltoolforrohloffspeedhub500148501prod10359/
The previous sprocket lasted 10,000 miles with one reversal and two chains! See the following to ensure that you have the torque in the right direction! (many people get this wrong and only tighten up the old sprocket!

Needed To Tune Gear 11

Consprice!
ProsQuality, reversible
Went for different size sprocket and chainring to get gear 11 as my favourite level road gear when fully loaded.
I already had the necessary tools and found changing the sprocket simple with the wheel vertical so no oil loss. Used a hint to ziptie the end of the chain whip to stop it slipping off! It certainly needs a good hefty heave to loosen. Used copper slip under the new one. This sprocket should last me a long time.

ConsMay need Rohloff Gear Oil as well
ProsLong Lasting Sprocket
Quick delivery fitting instructions very helpful. However, the fitting instructions made no mention that you could lose all the gear oil if the wheel is mounted in a vice. Fortunately, I had spare Rohloff oil to refill but would have been miffed if I had had to reorder more oil after the event.
SJS very helpful I always order through them

Which tool do I need to remove the old one ?
By
14 Oct 2017
Hi,

You'll need a chain whip and Rohloff's own tool to hold the driver body still, these are SJSC part number 41415.

Thanks.
when is the 15 tooth sprocket going to be in stock?
By
04 Aug 2017
Hi,

Unfortunately we will not be getting any more of these sprockets back into stock as this design has been discontinued by Rohloff. You will need to purchase one of the splined carriers (SJSC part 43202) and one of the splined sprockets (SJSC part 41411) instead. You will only need to purchase the splined sprockets then for every sprocket change.

Thanks.
