Great kit for servicing hub. Don’t need to use all of the oil so can save for another service, however only enough thinning / cleaning oil for single service and I have not found anyone selling thinning / cleaning oil separately.

Used these kits four or five times since owning Rohloff hub with no issues.

This Rohloff oil change kit was supplied by SJS cycles and comes complete with flushing fluid, gear oil, exchange pipe, screw plug and syringe. The price was reasonable and comparable with most other retailers. Delivery was excellent, and the kit came incredibly well packaged and was delivered by the Royal Mail. SJS also sell the Rohloff service items separately, so once you have bought a kit, you can just buy the consumable parts in future years and that will cut the costs. The service is simple to perform and essential for the maintenance of the fantastic Rohloff hub, so not really worth skimping. 5 stars for SJS yet again. Can't fault this company.

The Rohloff hub is an incredible piece of cycling kit, it’s well worth changing the oil regularly (annually in my case) to keep the hub in good condition. This kit is easy to use and has the Rohloff quality.

1. Kit is excellent just the job but do look at Youtube video first.
2. Undoing drain plug is fiddly you need to get a long arm 3mm allen key.
3. You'll find the plug is stiff to undo because of seal, be very careful you do not round the plug hole with the allen key.

Seemed to work fine. The alternative would be a trip to SJS (which is a good shop to visit) that would have filled a day and a substantial train fare - so really good value.
The down side is not getting the full service that the trip to SJS would have involved.

Great kit, if a little expensive, but keeping your very expensive hub in fine fettle is the priority. Dead simple to change the oil, I highly recommend watching the SJS YouTube video explaining the process, which is clear and we'll presented.

As with most German products and like the Rohloff hub itself, this oil change kit is really easy to use. I change my oil at every 2500 - 3000 miles to be sure that my Speedhub will never let me down, even though it's connected to a mid-drive motor with more than 80Nm of torque! The Rohloff hub is the only internal hub that has reliability & strength built in!

I needed the oil to put in an Alfine 11 hub. The instructions weren’t that clear but it was easy to figure out what I was supposed to do. There are also a number of tutorials on You Tube. Took about 30 mins altogether together

Online video and paper instructions are very clear and easy to follow.
However, there is what appears to be an optional step to glue the tube to the syringe. It seemed tight enough so I didn't bother. But I'll be doing it next year!!

Great kit for servicing the hub.
Worth a few extra pounds to get everything you need and a nice clean syringe for putting the oil in.
I tend to use a previously used syringe for taking out the waste oil and use the new supplied one for putting in the new oil. Instructions are supplied too. May look pricey but the hub will last a lifetime if looked after properly.

My first oil change. I followed the Rohloff video and Thorn's User Guide and Living with Rohloff brochure, and found it no problem. ( I am OK with DIY maintenance but not specially handy with it.)
I didn't glue the tube to the syringe, but handled it with a bit of caution and it stayed in place OK.
I got about 35ml of old oil flushing oil out and decided to put 15ml of new oil in, about 1/2 way between the Rohloff instructions and Thorn's guidance.
The seal on the old grub screw looked OK, and a friend said he'd been re-using the original one for several years without problem so I've reused it and kept the new one as a spare.
I've bought the 250ml double pack of flushing and lubricating oil for future use.

Slightly apprehensive about doing this on my expensive bike, but with a bit of planning all went according to instructions - except when I dropped the old plug screw. As well as the allen key I'd add a tiny piece of blu-tack to keep the screw on the end of the allen key whilst negotiating spokes, racks and mudguards. Will be happy to do this again myself in the future.

My only gripe is the amount of cleaner and oil in the kit. It barely allows sufficient for the job and makes no allowances for errors. This and the cost is down to Rohloff not SJS. SJS service was excellent.

This is the third time I have carried out an oil change on my Rohloff. If it was not simple I would not have bought the kit again. Everything you need except an allen key including easy instructions. The only fiddly bit is not a fault of the kit but having spokes fitted to the Rohloff which makes getting your fingers in to turn an allen key a little slow. Otherwise brilliant!

Just completed first oil change on new Rohloff hub and all went well except was initially a little worried because the drain screw was difficult to undo and for a moment I thought I might round the hex. However I persevered and it eventually gave way. Phew!!
I decided not to reuse drain screw because a new screw with preapplied thread sealant is significantly cheaper than the cost of sealant to apply to the old screw. (Loctite 511, the thread sealant recommended by Thorn and Rohloff, is about £20/£25 for 50ml which would buy you about a dozen new drain screws). So I would say use the old screw without sealant but always have a new screw to hand in the event of leaks. Incidentally as I understand it, threadlock is not the same as thread sealant so beware what you are using.

Other than an allen key you dont need anything else. The process is easy. Dont let the old one fall down a hole!

Make sure you keep that syringe in case you decide to buy the big container of cleaner and lubricant later on.

Great product. I have a Nomad and a Raven tandem. The first year the nomad went to the bike shop but then i saw the video. Even a mechanical duffer like me can follow the video and instructions, especially if teenage engineer son oversees the job! Take it slow and steady and you too can do an oil change. Beats a trip to the bike shop any day. I would recommend a warm sunny day rather than a windy October afternoon though. Both the oil and the blood runs freer

as previous reviewer says, this fits the Alfine 11 and is a lot cheaper than the shimano version. You need to get the instructions pdf from Shimano website. I didn't bother refitting the O ring whilst changing oil and was fine.

watch the video...read the instructions...do the job. everything is included in the kit. new grub screw is prepped with locktite. take your time and be methodical

Easy to do. I just bought a secondhand Raven Tour and glad I changed the oil the old oil was very dirty! Took half an hour, good instructions on the Thorn website. Reused grub screw without a problem. Bike running better now.

Kit arrived promptly as is usual for SJS Cycles. I didn't pick up on the Loctite routine but as this was the 5th oil change I simply used common sense. Now that I have 5 sets of bits and pieces I would prefer to purchase on the Cleaning fluid and the Oil. On the other hand, is it unreasonable to pay £20 pa for maintenance of such an expensive but reliable gear set? The annual maintenance costs of my old derailleur gear set was far higher and nowhere near as reliable. Don't forget, a Rohloff is for life.

Has everything required for an oil change. Considerately the rinsing fluid bottle is large enough to handle the waste oil for disposal. However the recommendation to superglue the filling tube to the syringe didn't work for me as it didn't "hold" and the superglue hardened the tube a bit preventing a natural seal.

Can't say that it's an object of desire, but having bought the kit once, larger bottles of the rinsing and gear oils are available, so worthwhile for the longer term.

Kit arrived promptly but unable to source Lochtite 511 locally and not part of the kit. Further advice confirmed it was not needed if using the new Grub Screw as it already had it on (only needed if replacing the used grub screw). But the instructions need to be updated to make this clear to first time users.
